Taste Hungary: Your Ticket to Hungarian Food, Wine, & Culture

The sunset sky was streaked with orange, gold, and pink as we strolled along Bródy Sándor Street in the Palace District of Budapest, admiring the Neoclassical and eclectic aristocratic palaces. We were on the lookout for The Tasting Table & Wine Cellar, our starting point for a small-group food-and-wine tour.

When we visit a new destination, we love to dive into the local food, wine, history, and culture. It’s not just about reading reviews; we want to experience everything firsthand. We want to chat with locals, try local favorites, find wine shops, and hear about the past from historians. It’s all about making connections and soaking up the vibe.

Taste Hungary was suggested as the best-rated culinary and wine tour company in Hungary. After a little research, we knew booking tastings and tours with Taste Hungary would fulfill our desire to immerse ourselves in Budapest’s best.

Taste Hungary offers an array of immersive culinary experiences that highlight the flavors, traditions, and history of Hungarian wine, cuisine, and culture. Each experience is a small-group session led by knowledgeable sommeliers, culinary experts, and historians. We chose a wine tasting and a food-and-wine tour.

Palace District Evening Culinary & Wine Walk, With A Side of History

Our immersive journey began at The Tasting Table & Wine Cellar with a wine tasting and a charcuterie board of Hungarian salami, local cheeses, bread, and toasted pumpkin seed oil. The pumpkin seed oil was new to all of us, but it was addictive.

Our sommelier took us on a tasting tour, sharing stories about each wine and its pairing. He gave us insider details about where everything comes from and its history, making the whole experience both informative and tasty.

Then, our food, wine, and history guide, Angela, joined us. We began our walking tour through the Palace District. The tour not only satisfied our taste buds but also deepened our knowledge through historical insights and fascinating stories about the district’s past.

Between Angela’s stories about the palaces, museums, parks, and statues of the Palace District, we stopped into restaurants and bars for traditional drinks, appetizers, soup, entrée, and dessert. Having a different eatery for each course was a wonderful way to experience several restaurants, enjoy varied atmospheres, and savor delicious traditional and historic Hungarian dishes.

Try your own progressive dinner the next time you are in an area with lots of eateries close by.

The small-group tour is a journey through Hungary’s deep culinary landscape. You’ll savor traditional dishes that highlight the region’s lively flavors and ingredients. The tour is a wonderful experience. When you join a Taste Hungary tour, you might find yourself at different restaurants than we visited, trying dishes unlike the ones we had. Still, it will be a progressive dinner you won’t forget.
